RIP Ghalib.

Hazaron khwahishein aisi, ke har khwahish pe dum nikle
Bahut nikle mere armaan, lekin phir bhi kam nikle

RIP Ghalib.

Today is Mirza Ghalib’s 140th death anniversary. May his soul rest in peace.

what a lovely picture. I didn’t realize how beautiful his tomb is!

My favourite Ghalib quote is (and I am not sure if I am quoting correctly) when I think a british official asked him whether he was a musalmaan and he answered “neem. Sharaab peeta hoon, suuar nahin khaata”

  2. Actually, its only pretty from the inside – the boundary wall of the mazar is in shambles, and Ghalib’s library, just two steps down the road, is in a terrible condition.

I always thought his poem “Kuchh na thha to khuda tha” was inscribed on his tomb. Guess I have to revise my perception.
